At St. Teresa’s Catholic Primary School, we were proud to take part in UK Parliament Week, giving pupils the opportunity to learn about democracy, decision-making, and the role of government in shaping our communities.
We were delighted to welcome Jonathan Brash, Labour MP for Hartlepool, who spoke to the whole school about what it means to be a Member of Parliament, how laws are made in Westminster, and the importance of representing local people.
Our pupils shared thoughtful ideas for changes they would like to see in Hartlepool, focusing on fairness, kindness, and helping others. Mr Brash praised their compassion and strong sense of responsibility, highlighting how these values are essential for future leaders.
Key Stage 2 pupils then enjoyed an engaging Q&A session, asking questions about parliamentary debates, elections, and what life in government looks like day to day. The discussion left pupils feeling inspired, informed, and excited about the future of democracy and participation.
At St. Teresa’s, we believe in empowering children to understand their voice matters – and this event was a fantastic way to bring British Values to life.
